Whats In a Name?

I have always heard the name of Jesus was the most important name on the earth. As a Christian, that fact seemed like kind of a no-brainer. My whole life I have heard so many songs and scriptures that just reiterate the importance of Who Jesus is so that has always been relevant to me. As I type this right now, I am listening to worship where the leader is declaring, that the name of Jesus is above every disease, the name of Jesus is above cancer, the name of Jesus is above every circumstance in our lives. I know this is true, but I still found it ironic that the importance of His name would be declared at the same moment I felt compelled to write about that very thing. Hows that for confirmation?

Recently, it was revealed to me that although I knew this as a fact, and I knew this to be the truth, it had become watered down a little and the true meaning of the name of Jesus wasn’t something I meditated on or learned more of. There was just SOMETHING that I had been missing. I had His name in my arsenal that I use in spiritual warfare, but there was so much more to it than that. Jesus wanted me to see and experience the fullness of what comes from knowing His name. He was just waiting on me to listen and figure that out…then to actually use this new information to do even more in His name. This was revealed to me in that still, small voice you hear about (or maybe even hear for yourself) that gently nudged me to do something different with the name of Jesus. Yeshua. So, whats in a name?

Romans 10:13 says:

All (EVERYONE) who call upon the name of the Lord will be saved.

Romans 10:13

Lastly, I looked up the meaning of the word saved in the original text as well. This is a word that I was very familiar with and some of you might be as well:

SOZO-safe, rescued, deliver out of danger and into safety, used principally of God rescuing believers from the penalty and power of sin-and into His provision (safety). Saved/rescued from destruction and brought into divine safety.

Strong’s Concordance

Sozo also means to save from certain death, to be healed, and salvation or getting born again. Just that one word shows us much of our Fathers heart and the character of Jesus. When we call upon His name, we have authority to do so because we are a loved member of His family and He is the one who can deliver us, save us, heal us, and bring us our salvation. So, whats in a name? I would say that in this case our very existence is in His name, and it is our duty as a member of His family to allow that to soak in and for us to willingly live in the truth that it is His character to gladly love us in this way that He does. Think about the different things you are going through right now and then think about how you can use the name of Jesus to be delivered out of that situation. The Bible says you have the authority to use His name! So, how can you use it? Let us know in the comments or feel free to send an email with your reply.
